Aloha from Bala
This beer came about through a collaboration with nearby Heavy Industry Brewing. The goal was to produce a modern take on the classic Pilsner style by incorporating New World hops. We felt the unique hop aromas would be complemented by some sourness and a relatively low level of alcohol. The result was a unique, cloudy beer with a tropical aroma that reminded us of papaya. So we named it after our own local beach resort: beautiful Bala Lake. Enjoy it with some pupu on your lanai. Mahalo.
Aloha from Bala starts with a traditional Pilsner mash, but includes an extra step at the beginning to allow lactic acid to build up. This provides the sourness that complements the Australian aroma hops. Bitterness comes from traditional German noble hops in the kettle. Aroma hops are later added to the whirlpool and fermenter. This unique experiment has proven so popular that it is now part of our core range of beers.
